In recent years, this neighborhood has become the focus of redevelopment efforts. Good things are happening in Tampa’s oldest suburb. The Gonzmart family, famous for their Columbia Restaurants, brought Tampa Heights to the headlines with their award-winning restaurant, Ulele. Around the same time, former Mayor Bob Buckhorn and community leaders opened the new Water Works Park and the Armature Works houses restaurants of all genres, including a James Beard award-winning restaurant.
This neighborhood is surrounded by a wonderful selection of nearby schools including: Graham Elementary School, Madison Middle School, Hillsborough High School. For higher education: University of South Florida
Tampa Heights’ architecture reflects its history. In the late 1880s, Tampa Heights became Tampa’s first suburb when people moved from Downtown Tampa believing they could escape the Yellow Fever epidemic. Residents constructed simple framed homes.
