Jan grew up in South Africa and lived in Colombia before moving to the United States. After graduating from the University of Texas she worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. In 1983 she moved to St. Petersburg. For 24 years she taught high school French and Spanish, and during the summers she lead student tours throughout Europe. She began her real estate career in 2005 with Smith & Associates. Having raised her three children in St. Petersburg she is very familiar with Pinellas county. She takes great pride in sharing her knowledge of all this area has to offer, from the beautiful parks of Seminole and Largo, to the world-renowned beaches from Clearwater to Pass-a-Grille, to the museums of downtown St. Petersburg. Because of her extensive background in traveling and living overseas she took courses to earn the designation of Certified International Property Specialist. She also earned the certification of Military Relocation Professional. Her two sons, one of whom is a Green Beret, served with Special Operation teams in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2007- 2014.
Jan spends her leisure time downtown where she has lived since 2000. She swims daily and enjoys walking along the waterfront, strolling down Central Avenue, visiting museums and cafes, and stopping to enjoy morning coffee with friends. Despite her busy schedule she finds time each week to perfect her skills as a ballroom dancer.
