We are rallying behind one of Smith’s family members, Maggie Bush, and joining her as she walks in The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Walk on September 21st in downtown St. Petersburg, FL. Maggie has been fighting Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and is now pronounced NED (No Evidence of Disease). Her strength and positive spirit throughout the experience have been truly inspiring and we are proud to be able to walk by her side and support a cause that she believes in.
Maggie is planning to be healthy enough to walk the 5K in the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Walk in St. Petersburg on September 21st. She will be the Team Captain of SERENDIPITY. Maggie says she chose the team name Serendipity because “I have found such joy in the most unexpected places. My life is fuller and happier, and I have to say that having cancer has made me appreciate everything so much more”.
Smith has been a long-time supporter of The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation recognizing the help they provide through research, support and advocacy for a disease that is often diagnosed too late. The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation was started in 2003 by family and friends of a woman named Celma Mastry who passed for the disease and struggled to get it identified. The foundation was established to help other women who were also suffering from this “silent killer” with a mission of uniting family, friends, and community to fight ovarian cancer.
About the Race: The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation race starts at Albert Whitted Park in beautiful downtown St. Petersburg. The runners and walkers get to experience a beautiful sunrise. Most of the course is along the waterfront with city streets closed to traffic. All participants receive a great t-shirt and finisher’s medal and get to cheer for women who inspire so many with their strength. Great refreshments and music as well as loads of competition among teams! The 5K and 10K and 1-mile courses are USATF-certified (#FL11071EBM) with chip timing for the 5K and 10K.
While Maggie is NED, she still has many struggles ahead due to damage caused by the chemo. Her brothers sent her to New York City and joined her on September 7th for the TEAL Walk, which is a fundraiser for ovarian cancer awareness. Early detection is key to better outcomes, but normal blood tests and annual PAP’s don’t detect ovarian cancer. Thus, it’s often not discovered until it has reached Stage 4.

Once relegated to base floors, amenity spaces are taking center stage in new condo towers rising across Tampa Bay. Developers are choosing to give buyers the opportunity to experience the priciest views in the building by giving up sellable real estate and instead designing these prime locations to be the ultimate spaces for shared enjoyment.
The allure of being able to swim in a rooftop pool, to sit by a fire pit under the stars or to do your morning yoga in a top floor fitness room with 360-degree water views, is appealing to the new condo resident and stand out as lifestyle benefits unavailable to most homeowners. Condos have long lured the homeowner tired of home maintenance, but developers are betting that these resort-like amenities will attract A-listers who desire an urban retreat and a lifestyle of luxury living.
All of the five new construction condo towers in Tampa that overlook the Bay will feature above-ground amenities. Virage Bayshore has a resort-style terrace overlooking the bay with heated infinity pool, shade cabanas, and secluded spa. Simply called “The Retreat”, The Sanctuary at Alexandra Place takes a holistic approach with lushly landscaped gardens and Zen-like features that bring privacy and intimacy to the elevated space. The Retreat’s features include a beautiful lounge, state-of-the-art fitness studio, heated pool and spa with private cabanas, an outdoor kitchen, and fire pit. Hyde Park House’s elevated social room offers large screen TV’s, bar and fireplace with prime cityscape and Bay views. At Altura Bayshore, the tower’s rooftop with be a “social lounge” complete with a sunset terrace, cabanas, bar and rooftop pool. Rooftop activation is a popular trend across the US and is resonating with the Tampa Bay buyers who tend to value the ability to be outdoors.
According to our Vice President of Developer Services, David Traynor, says the decision to raise the bar on the amenities offered and place them in prime locations only enhances the success of a property in the current market. “The modern luxury buyer has high expectations and wants more from their home than just a spacious interior. They want to have cocktails at a rooftop bar, enjoy a lazy Sunday in a poolside cabana, host a party with cityscape views and in general, find a lifestyle that feels nourishing,” says Traynor.
With their modern aesthetic, these condo towers are appealing to multi-generational buyers and give the million-dollar buyer access to quality offerings available in the luxury condo tower markets of larger cities around the country.

The 2nd Annual Charity Music Concert in Westchase was Saturday, Sept 14th and we were a sponsor! This event showcased over 25 student musicians and performers from the Tampa Bay area for an evening of music, song, and dance. Among the performers were the Alonso Varsity Cheerleaders, the Robinson H.S. Starlet dancers, Dawson Dance Academy, and the Davidsen Middle School Chorus. 100% of the proceeds of the event went to the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and the Speak Up CKG Foundation whose mission is focused on bringing hope and awareness to teenage mental health.
With an office in Westchase and many Smith associates living in the Westchase community, we wanted to be involved in an event that contributes to the arts and gives back to organizations working with mental health in our youth. The Westchase area has excellent schools, a family-friendly atmosphere and is community-oriented. Pedestrian-friendly trails, golf courses, swimming pools, and an urban center with shops and restaurants make this a nice to live for people of all ages.
Whether its a big music festival or a local showcase for the youth artists in our community, Smith is there!

The Oaks Estate – Tampa Bay’s Architectural Masterpiece
“The Oaks,” a magnificent sprawling country estate situated on Lake Thonotosassa is on the market for $22 million. It is one of the largest homes in Hillsborough County. With meticulous care to every element of the architectural design, The Oaks is one of Florida’s most significant homes to be built within the last century. The home has 1/4 mile of lakefront property on Hillsborough County’s largest lake and is only twenty minutes from downtown Tampa. With six hundred trees including almost four hundred mature live oaks and twenty-one Italian Cypress trees, imported and transplanted to create an idyllic landscape, “The Oaks” is a natural fit for the estate name and incomparable to any home in Tampa Bay.
This French-Normandy country style gated manor was designed by the award-winning Cooper Johnson Smith Architects and built by Alvarez Homes. The construction process took 4 years and was completed in 2012. The collaboration between the owners, the architects and the builder is evident in the hand-picked, out-sourced materials from around the world and contributes to the refined details and sense of warmth that is rarely found in homes built today.
Surrounded by handcrafted rolling hills with manicured lawns, gardens and trees, the grounds encompass a long private brick driveway, main house, 2-story guest house, antique collector garage that can hold up to 20 cars, workshop, well-appointed pool house, gatehouse, horse barn with grazing pasture, indoor and outdoor salt water pools, expansive loggia’s, 2-story boat house, race track, and 1 mile jogging trail. Four contiguous properties were acquired to form the 36 acre estate with 1,278 feet of lake frontage. Main residence with elevator access to all levels comprises 4-stories with 6 bedrooms, 8 full and 7 half baths, plus 7-car garage. The Oaks offers a world class men’s lounge, chef’s kitchen with finest cabinetry/appliances, master suite with sitting room and his/her bathrooms/closets, grand salon, craft room, fitness room, steam and sauna rooms, massage area, bowling alley, an indoor heated saltwater pool, game room, 3 fireplaces, and magical night lighting.

“The Oaks is an architectural masterpiece of epic proportions, and achieves the rare ability for a home of this size to feel warm, intimate, and inviting,” says Mary Pond, listing agent for the Pond Gunning team at Smith & Associates Real Estate.
With a passion for details, the owners traveled the world to lovingly craft a home that has splendor and warmth. That warmth is felt in the design of the open layout kitchen featuring top-of-the-line appliances from Perlick with an elegant Imperial blue granite on the kitchen countertops and a backsplash that stands out as an aesthetic centerpiece. The most notable appliance in the kitchen is the 72” LaCornue range with double vaulted ovens and large French top. Oak’s kitchen also features Wolf island oven, Subzero Refrigerator and wine cooler, ice maker, 2 chill drawers, wood beams and oversized pantry.
Taylor & Taylor Partnerships designed the interiors of this country manor with timeless, meticulous detailing and input from the owners that establishes The Oaks as an iconic home in the tradition of some of the most admired homes in the world. Details like custom hand-painted silk wallpaper, herringbone pattern wood floors in the men’s lounge and grand bedrooms with spacious dressing room and closets, make the home versatile for spacious living, intimate family nights or more formal entertaining.
Lit by almost one thousand lights, including an underwater light in the front fountain and the boat dock area, this self-containing property and home is magical at night. Phenomenal views of the countryside and lake vista, create the backdrop for a home that is relaxing and comfortable.

Historically Restored Home is the Highest Listed Non-Waterfront Property For Sale in Seminole Heights
Patsy Daniel-White Has an Emotional Reunion With Her Childhood Home
Tampa, FL (July 17, 2019) – For most of us, waves of nostalgia flood our minds when we think of our childhood home. The natural curiosity to see changes or sameness while recalling memories from youth is a draw for every adult. For one Tampa native, visiting her childhood home became a reality when a historical Seminole Heights home hit the market this month.
The home will be the most expensive listing in Seminole Heights, besides waterfront properties. The home was built in 1900 by a doctor from the North. Patsy Daniel-White moved into the home in 1939, when she was only 18 months old and lived there with her family until she married. As a child, she ran through the groves of fruit trees on the property, picking pecans, oranges, and guava for the family. She walked down the road to Hillsborough High for school, learned to drive in the back lot of the home and had her first kiss with her husband on the front porch step.
Married for over 60 years, White walked through the home and was overwhelmed with emotion at the care the new owners took to meticulously bring the home back to life while preserving historical details that are unmatched in new construction. Located at 5111 N. Central Avenue, the home sits on almost one acre of land along the main thoroughfare of Seminole Heights.
Says White, “I have lived in Tampa my whole life and seeing this home restored to its full glory, preserved with a nod to modernization but also a remembrance of tradition, makes me feel appreciative of the evolution I have been blessed to witness in this magnificent city.”
This estate has been completely updated to accommodate the needs of today’s lifestyle while retaining the elegant charm for which this area is beloved. Sitting on nearly an acre of land comprised of two large, individual lots, the main home displays its grandeur with approximately 2,650 square feet of living space.
Every inch of the home has been updated with the utmost attention to detail. To maintain their authenticity and beauty, the original wood floors were meticulously restored with pieces of flooring from a bedroom where the floors were replaced with plush carpeting. This home features a functioning wine cellar with tasting area, a true rarity in Florida, a downstairs master suite, large open bedrooms, coffered ceilings, a large enclosed front porch, an open gourmet kitchen, and another upstairs suite. At the end of the driveway, there is a carriage house featuring two updated apartment units adding another 1,302 square feet. White recalls a retired doctor from Maine lived in the carriage house apartment which had an elevator. That elevator is still there and fully functioning.
The home is listed at $922,900 by Smith & Associates Real Estate.
